So I just saw this and laughed uncontrolably.
Every now and again, us women want a body shaper of sorts. Suck and suck, smooth out... whatever. Well this one seems to be able to work utter MAGIC! The women at the beginning of the commercial are in teh 200 lb range... but as soon as we bust out the product, they manage to become about 100 lb range. ASTONISHING!
The computer reconstruction shows a loss of about an entire person... lucky it's very realistic hahahaha.
And the model trying on the garment... literally in a bikini and in need of a sandwitch.
I don't even know what else to say about this bad boy....

April Fool's Worm a Serious Computer Threat

CNN has recently posted an article voicing a serious concern about a computer worm (essentially a type of virus) that could have dire consequences if ignited on April 1st, as it is believed to be.

With many of us students relying on our typed notes, and having many final papers due, I thought I would mention it. As of now, it's threats have been undetectable to most as it will simply block windows updates and virus protection updates as to have them not attain the updates necessary to stop this worm. It is believed that when ignited, it will delete all the files from a person's computer, as well as monitor the users keyboard action as a means of attaining personal information and passwords.

If you want to know if you are infected, note when was the last time you had a windows or any kind of update. If you have had one since March, you should be in the clear. If not, check it out. Windows recommends going here http://safety.live.com for possible information.

So in my class today, we were given an assignment and with disdain i responded "Ugh, brutal, I am going to a concert the next day." So, someone asked me what concert, and I responded that I was going to see Britney Spears. And of course, the extreme intellect contained in my basic normative ethics course were riddled with uproar. Surely, I must be an idiot.

One student responded "You know she lipsynchs, right?" Could we be more condescending? Did she think I was unaware of this and she was bursting my grade 9 bubble? I also know Santa doesn't exist and that wrestling isn't real....
I laughed and said I knew, and another student was like "OH right! Let me guess, you must be going to experience the extreme intellect and musical integrity, right?"
Now... if you know anything about me... you know I am addicted to rageohol. So my only possible response was as follows... (note the extreme sarcasm). "Really? You're going to judge my intellect based on this? I think that I expose myself to enough intellectual activity on a regular basis to warrant my listening to bad music. I am so sorry if in between a lecture and after making a phone call based on political involvement, and while on my way to my internship, I like to blast pop music in my car. I am so sorry if after an 18 hour day of classes, meetings, and working, I like to go out with friends and unwind by dancing to some bubblegum pop. Lucky for me, I don't feel the need to wear multicoloured plastic bracelets and pretend to understand the musical integrity behind Nickleback in order to be a cool."

I never claimed that Britney was a mathematician, or even that she was a gifted song writer. All anyone could infer was that I liked listening to the music associated with Britney Spears. How is there anything wrong with that? I don't see how liking some smutty music at all degrades my intellectual integrity. Guess what, I also like 50 cent and the Spice Girls, and every now and again I watch Manswers on Spike TV. I recognize smut, and I also recognize when I want to enjoy some smutty entertainment as a means of unwinding. I don't have to justify anything by also claiming that I believe Brandon Boyd to be one of the great poets of our time, or that I read essays and nonfiction books until my eyes hurt, even after writing my 3 essays for the day and after attending a legal debate.

This was a battle that was mostly fought by people in high school when it's still cool to pretend to reject pop culture and simply adopt an 'alternative' view of pop culture that they find in other mass read blogs and magazines.

Political and Legal Philosophy's Role in Animal Rights

Interesting?
In a way, yes. It seems that nowadays, we have all kinds of groups, mainly radical, that attempt to provide arguments for and against our right to use animals as our own property.
Well, in studying some early modern philosophy, it seems that there are various ideologies and arguments about private property that have been in debate for hundred of years that seem to lend some words to such a debate.

Going to an old favorite, we can look at John Locke's foundation as an attempt to study private property. For Locke, private property is a relationship between people and objects, or so it seems. My ownership of my house is a relationship between me and my house. And in nature, it seems we do not have anything above communal ownership until we make some sort of an agreement.
Another philosopher who looked at this would be Poofendorf. In his view, private property involves the relationship between people and other people (with respect to property). Like for instance, I have a relationship with you, in that I can prohibit you from entering the house which I own.

We have a natural right to things, because, by nature we NEED certain things in nature for our survival and it could not be a "sin" to thus use those resources.
So the question is, do we need animals? Do we have the right to them because we need them? Realistically, we could argue that we need other humans in the same way as we need other animals, and intuitively, we do not have the right to other humans.
Poofendorf would argue that in order to have certain outlined principles, we need a sense of consent. Unfortunately for animals, we are incapable of entering an agreement with them as we cannot effectively communicate with them. Therefore they are not in the same moral community as them, and thus do not owe them any rights.
So... let's eat 'em!
But what if we look at this from the other side? Poofendorf, Grotius, Locke and Hobbes all seem to agree that there is a level of consent necessary before we can exercise certain rights. So can't we say that because of our inability to have consent from the animals, and our inability to make an agreement with them, then we have no real rights over them.
Poofendorf views us as being at war with the animals due to our inability to consent with them. If a tiger is going to kill me, I am in a state of war, and thus have the right to kill... and eat it. But surely we cannot be said to be at war with cultivated chickens! I would be tempted to doubt that a solitary cultivated chicken would be a regular threat to my life.
This is an interesting debate. It's not so much the literature itself that I find interesting... more the fact that we can date this debate far back to times before Pam Anderson told us she's rather go naked than wear fur.

APPRENTICE SEASON!
So it's time for celebrity apprentice, round 2!!

This season's cast has some celebs which are even more d-list then we could have imagined. HOWEVER, there are some exciting faces like Joan Rivers and Dennis Rodman.
It's started off strong, and in the first two episodes, the men's team has taken the the big loss.
I for one, could not be more excited!!
The challenges thus far have been the same lame tasks, take the same idea (Selling food out of a cart) and changes a small element (hot dog season one, cupcake season 2).
But in true Apprentice fashion... it was awesome!!
I can't wait for it to unfold!

I'm Writing a Book

Ambitious, isn't it?
It's definately a venting mechanism as is the blog. When my hands are idle and I just want to write write write, I turn to this book.
By "writing a book" I mean that i wrote most of a possible book in about a day or so hahaha. Wanna read it?

This delivery was more intimidating than most. I guess it was because for the first time, I was the face. Mr. Davian was nicer to females, at least that’s what they told me. That’s why they thought it would all go better if I was the face. I tried to be as calm as possible, because I was supposed to be the pro, but my palms were still so sweaty. I don’t think I showed it in my face, at least I think I didn’t, because Davian was looking right at me and didn’t seem to notice a thing. It was a good thing everything moved fast, because my palms were so sweaty that I could hardly grip the briefcase. 3 kilos. 350 kilos. No not in the case in my hand, but I was promising 350 kilos. That’s Pablo Escabar kind of shit, all being promised by me to Mr. Davian. I could feel my face turning red, but the room was dark, so no one seemed to notice. Davian insisted on frisking me, rather than having his guards do it. This was defiantly letting his guard down, but I figured it was all part of his persona of enjoying female faces. My heart was beating so rapidly that I could hear it, but I took solace in the fact that I was likely the only one who could do so. I handed over the case and kept all conversation to a minimum. “A sample.” I watched while Davian pried open my case and stabbed one of the tiny plastic bags inside with what I assume was a solid gold pocket knife. He scooped up a small amount of the powder and craned it toward his face. I must have looked so nervous, because without breaking his eye contact with me, he changed his range of motion and fed the powder up the nose of one of his many goons.
“Shit, I can barely feel my face.” The goon seemed to enjoy the product I was presenting. Davian gave me his creepiest laugh. This somehow relieved me. He reached out and shook my hand. And that’s when it all went sour.

AH THIS IS EMBARASSING. I don't imagine I will leave this post up for very long

Batman Cast Release: We can only hope it's another tease

So They released a possible cast for the new batman movie. Sources are looking pretty solid. While some of the stars seem exciting, I have to express some disappointment. Being the nerd that I am, I have the riddler obviously listed as my number one favorite villain of all time!! So, of course I hoped for nothing but the perfect cast. Johnny Depp was at one point speculated, and I was all about it. But who has been signed? Eddie Murphy..... anyone? anyone?
Shia is rumored to be Robin, and Rachel Weisz is said to be playing catwoman. What do you guys think??

As some of you know, one of the biggest dickheads in the NHL is Sean Avery. Well... Avery is kind of known for his smack talk, his fight picking, and most of all, his brief relationship with Elisha Cuthbert.
So background: the dated... and then they broke up. Now, she is dating another NHL'er, namely Dion Phaneuf. So before the game, ol' Avery decided to make a little statement which seems to be about said relationship....

So... in my original opinion... i figured it wasn't so bad. People talk shit, it's the game. But in all seriousness... it was an intentional attack, OFFFFFF the ice, and is offensive to Elisha who pretty much did nothing other than tap into her NHL resources.

But someone thought it was bad... because Avery has been SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY!!!

Ontario Driving Legislation--> A New Hazzard?

So... if you don't know...
The Ontario government is trying to move forward with legislation changing the rules for young drivers. They include things about lowering the amount of alcohol that is legal for a driver, and other things of the sort. All of those seem relatively valid since, believe me, the problems with young drivers are terrrrrible here!! People are reckless....
And even with the low legal limit of alcohol, there is a problem, because people over estimate themselves, and the cops aren't always there to stop you before the accident happens.

But... one rule that really stands out for me, is that they want to make it so a young driver can not have more than one passenger in their vehicle at any time (unless they are siblings). Seems like a pain in the ass.... and maybe just an inconvenience.... but what about this...

We all know that.... PEOPLE DRIIIIIINK!! And we also know we have to pick a DD because not every young person has cab fare pouring out of their pockets. So now what? If your designated driver can only take home one person, what does that mean? It is idiotic to assume that people will drink less. I think we are going to create a bigger problem. Either, more people will be driving drunk.... more people will be walking home alone, or young people will be breaking the law to be the sober driver for their friends.....
That's.... insane!
Someone needs to reconsider this...

Today is election day in Canada.
Being avid in politics, I have been keeping up, checking campaigns, comparing policies, and formulating opnions. So today is voting day, and I was once again... turned away!!
You see, I went to vote by proxy (I am at school, and I live away from my riding) but since my drivers liscence (and other ID) has my home address on it, and since I pay most of my bills online and thus have nothing with my school address on it other than a solitary cable bill, I was unallowed to vote. Yes, democracy works. I won't mention that I had to go out of my way to check voting stations, apply to vote by proxy, and find a way to the randomly placed voting station across the city.
We read exposes and review stats all the time, where there are complaints about the fact that YOUNG PEOPLE DON'T VOTE. Voting rates have been steadily declining, especially in the younger age ranges. Here's an idea: MAKE IT EASIER TO VOTE!! I am someone who made the extra effort, and I was turned away! What about the young people who are unaware or unwilling to take extra effort? How are we supposed to know how to vote? They have people come door to door once an election.... during the week... at about 2pm... WHO IS HOME AT 2PM?! ... No One, that's who.
Dear elections team: FIX THIS! If you want us to vote, help us vote. Make it easy, make it accessible, and educate us on methods. We are more than willing to have a say in our government, give us the chance!

That's my daily rant...

Harper has moved to pass new policy cutting 40 million dollars from the Arts.... that means less funding and grants for operahs, museums, demos, visual arts research in universities, etc...

Stand up!!! We need the Arts!!
A med student once said "I save lives, what do you do?" And the Arts student replied "I make those lives worth saving."

Whether you are Canadian, American, Timbuktuian or whatever, realize the importance of your arts. Choir funding lead to students gaining musical knowledge, and some beocming the famous singers we enjoy everyday (like Usher, Brandon Boydd, and Pharrell). Also, many mathemiticians who have made huge advances in math and science have rooted skills from music and how it enriched their minds.
TV, music, Movies, books, papers and intellectual advancement are all rooted in the arts! Don't let it die! Fight for the ARTS!!

PITEA, Sweden - Tomas Holmstrom had his day with the Stanley Cup on Friday, and he let his cousin use it as a baptismal font for a christening.

Holmstrom suggested the idea to his cousin, Robert Sundstrom, who baptized his seven-week-old daughter Alva Felicia during a private ceremony outside Holmstrom's hometown of Pitea in northern Sweden.

"Tomas came up with the idea when we were sitting in his summer cabin kitchen a week ago," Sundstrom said. "Me and my wife thought it would be fun to christen our daughter in such a priceless object."

The only outsiders at the ceremony were the two American security guards who travel with the massive silver trophy in Sweden.

Holmstrom won the Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings, and each member of the team gets to spend a day with the trophy.

The Stanley Cup will next head to Vasteras, Nicklas Lidstrom's hometown.

Lidstrom, one of seven Red Wings regulars from Sweden, made hockey history last month when he became the first European captain to win the Stanley Cup. He is also a six-time winner of the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenceman.

Hancock... not so politically correct...

I just saw Hancock... the best part was the Quantum of Solace preview...

but anyways.... the movie kind of threw me fer a loop. It was pretty politically incorrect. Now I know that as a student I think a bit too critically about entertainment... but there were a few things in this movie that kinda threw me off.
For starters... the first scene involved gunmen... who were Asian. And well I know they were trying to portray Hancock as an "Asshole".... they were a biiiiiiit too derogatory in this scene... anyone else?
And what about the fact that all his themes are dubbed out rap?
Aaaaand what about when the superhero costume pictures were all "homo" which was "bad" and even "norwegian homo"... because just "homo" wasn't bad enough...

anyways... maybe I'm just being a student...
either way... the plot had a bit more intensity than I had expected... and the word "Fuck" was used just enough that kids can't see it... hmm

The lab has played roles in everyday cases as well as some of the most significant crime investigations in the nation's history, from the assassination of President Kennedy to the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988 to the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The lab now employs 500 agents, scientists and other personnel, far from its origins in 1932. Back then, there was only one agent working in a single room in Washington. His name was Charles Appel, a handwriting analysis expert.

Appel's background allowed the lab to play an important role in one of its first big cases: the kidnapping and killing of the toddler son of aviator Charles Lindbergh. Appel linked the handwriting from ransom notes to a suspect, Bruno Richard Hauptmann, who was convicted.

Since then, the lab has been on the cutting edge of crime-solving techniques. The advent of DNA analysis was a revolution in forensic science, and it's a key part of what the FBI lab does. See photos of the FBI as it turns 100 »

"Our unit handles anywhere from 1,500 to 1,800 submissions a year of evidence," Guerrieri said during a tour of the lab.

Often, that involves examining clothes for bodily fluids that can help identify a suspect or a crime victim. The DNA unit is one of the first areas of the lab to use robotics to speed up the processing of evidence.

Another scientific advancement is the Direct Analysis in Real Time machine, which can quickly identify substances such as poisons and explosives.

"The whole premise behind this technology is that almost every chemical we analyze has its own unique weight," said Dr. Marc LeBeau, chief of the lab's chemistry unit.

Lab officials say their advanced techniques are essential to fighting crime. But they also say that sometimes, those advances can unrealistically raise expectations.

Television shows like "CSI" show speedy DNA or fingerprint matches and criminals in handcuffs in just one hour, something lab workers say doesn't happen in the real world.

"We work on some cases for years at a time and keep putting more and more evidence together," said Carlo Rosati, a forensic examiner in firearms and tool marks.

FBI officials say many juries expect DNA and fingerprints to be found at every crime scene. "Why isn't there a fingerprint; why isn't there DNA?" Fram asked, describing jurors' expectations. "And they're going as far as feeling that they can't convict someone because you didn't find A, B or C, where you just don't always find those things."

The FBI lab has had some missteps. In 2004, authorities matched a fingerprint belonging to Oregon lawyer Brandon Mayfield to evidence found at the site of the Madrid, Spain, train bombings. Mayfield was cleared, sued the FBI and received a $2 million settlement. In the 1990s, a Justice Department investigation found flaws in lab analysis and trial testimony in some cases, which led to reforms.

"No one's infallible," Fram said. "A mistake can be made. The idea is to minimize it. And the idea is to act on it if it was made and correct it, and make sure it doesn't happen again."

Officials at the lab say they are strict about handling evidence.

When a CNN crew visited in June, it was not allowed into areas where scientists were working with real evidence. CNN was shown demonstrations with test materials.

Karen Lanning, chief of the evidence control unit, said evidence has to be dealt with correctly from the second it arrives at the FBI. "It's critical for every case, whether it's to put somebody who really should be in jail or to help exonerate somebody. It's somebody's life that we're dealing with, so it has to be taken very seriously."

So I was taking a leak at another school the other day, and they had these ads inside the stalls. Usually they are inappropriate, or able to envoke enough laughter for the 10 seconds you are in there.
But the one I saw today was a sick attempt at being funny, and in my opinion, at the risk of the expense of knowledge.
This ad was for Plan B, which is the 'emegency contraception' or 'morning after pill.'
Moral and ethical arguement about Plan B asssside. This has nothing to do with how I feel about Plab B... but about the ad itself.

I tried to cheat on my essay by copying another essay and changing all the words to their synonyms via that function on Microsoft Word. This is how it turned out

So... it took me some time to blog about this because I was just too emotional.
But the NHL trade deadline has come and gone, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have suffered the worst blow as a result. Ol' cliff promised us some big changes, but he did not pull any rabbits out of his hat. Instead, he broke fans' hearts when he traded away the legendary Wade Belak for a bag of pucks. That's right, Leafs fans, we got a 5th round draft pic (who likely won't even play) for our favorite entertainer and team personality. Wade is being paid 650 grand a year and is thus taking up NO cap space. Reasons for trading him are simply impossible to find. He is now playing for Florida... and I have no idea what Florida even wants with him! Do they need more healthy scratches? Belak's skills are off the ice, and this is appreciated by Leaf fans... not Florida fans. :(:(:(

We also lost Kilger and Kubina for some more shitty draft picks. No big whoop.
Some of the bigger trades involved Hossa, Foote, and philli and dallas. Big whoop.
I miss you Belak. You with your ginger hair, socks with sandals, carrot slicing and salsa skills will be missed by leaf fans nation wide.

So I saw the newest Rambo installment a few days back.
Thoughts, anyone?

I have to say, it was a bit creeps. I appreciate a good action movie far more than the next person, but I found my cheers of joy were held to a minimum for this one. You see, my joy in an action movie is being able to scream "HEEELLL YEEEAH" when some nameless character or a created villain's head is blown off. But this movie didn't allow for that. Don't get me wrong, there was waaaaay more blood shed than most movies, a healthy dose was provided. However, the movie was based on an all too real war/ genocide going on in Burma. So the introduction included spliced videos of the real deal, including crying and tortured children. And the movie also included scenes of rape, exploitation, and torture and amss killings of innocent people who represented REAL people, not just anonymous 'good' and 'bad' guys. I felt too creeped out by the crying women to cheer when a guys leg was blown off.
I am not to say that these movies are ineffective. But when you see a movie like, for instance, Hotel Rwanda, you expect some gut wrenching sadness, and something informative and frightening... not RAMBO.

The movie did provide some awesome cheese including Rambo appearing from the shadows, and full on ripping out a guy's jugular with his bare hands.
But it was also about an hour and 5 minutes which is so short, and ends with Rambo looking like John Stamos...

Save your money and get 2 starbucks coffees... get a large pizza, see ANOTHER MOVIE. I know the hype gives it enough novelty value, but trust me, just see the preview. You will end up closing your eyes every few minutes to regain your balance, and there is literally no plot or explanation of why there is a giant monster terrorizing the earth, or where it came from...
Just trust me...

***SPOILER WARNING****
Here is a synopsis I got online that sums it up perfectly... save yourself the effort and money and just read this so satisfy your curiosity. Then spin around in a circle 50 times while holding a flashlight and it will be JUST LIKE seeing it live:
"Film opens. Screen is blank for a while, then it starts flasihing colours and you discover that this is a copy of a government video not to be duplicated. It says Camera found at Area 449 (I think the number was like that I can’t remember exactly what it was), formerly known as Central Park. It describes the Coalfield incident.
Film opens with rob filming NY from the window in Beth’s dad’s apartment. He walks along the corridor and films the photos in the hall and walks into the room and films Beth while she is sleeping in bed Beth wakes up and talks to Rob for a minute before the camera cuts to her trying to catch fruit in her mouth that Rob is throwing at her lying in bed.
Film cuts to Jason filming Lily (his girlfriend) who is telling him that he is going to be in charge of the camera while at the party. He goes over to Hud who is helping prepare Rob’s leaving party and tells him is he is going to be in charge of the camera at the party and he just has to go around and get everybody to film a farewell message for Rob, like they do at weddings. Party happens (Rob has been promoted to vice president in Japan).
Hud is in charge of filming the party. At the part you discover that Rob has slept with Beth and they have a fight in the hallway about it.
Monster attacks during the party. All the main characters are going to die sometime in the film.
The monster looks like a big dinosaur crossed with an alien and tarantula like creatures fall off it.
Rob and Beth have a fight at the party and she leaves with a guy she bought to the party. Soon after she leaves the monster attacks and everybody leaves the party and they hide in a shop. when they go out onto the street they see buildings collapsing and they decide they have to get out of NY, They head to the Brooklyn Bridge and there Beth calls Rob saying she is trapped and can’t move.
They stop on the bridge even though they are meant to be moving and Jason (Rob’s brother) climbs up higher too see what is happening and at that minute the monster attacks and kills Jason. They start running as the bridge collapses behind them. They go into a electronic store because Rob’s mobile battery has run out and they see what is happening on T.V. They go into the subway and Rob’s mother calls and he tells her Jason is dead.
They (Rob, Lily, Marlena ad Hud) decide to start walking the train tracks because Rob wants to go and save Marlena because off her message on the bridge. Hud makes lots of jokes about a homeless guy that lives near train tracks and likes to light people on fire.
At that moment they notice that rats are running and they wonder what they are running from. They turn on the night vision and at that moment the tarantula like creatures emerge and start to attack them. Marlena gets hurt the worst her whole back been bitten while Hud has hurt his leg.
They crawl off the train tracks and into a room and decide whatever option they take they are going to die, so they might as well get out of here and try get back above ground.
They enter a department store and Marlena is looking really ill. At that moment the army emerges and says they have found four survivors and take them into a room where all the other survivors are (nearly all are near dead) at that moment Marlena starts bleeding from here eye and everybody starts screaming she is infected and they drag her into a sealed place and you see blood splatter everywhere (it looks like the shot her or she exploded, but you don’t see it happen).
Lily, Rob and Hud are in hysterics and they tell the army guy they are going to rescue Beth whether he likes it or not. He tells them if the can be back by 6.00 the helicopters will pick them up and take them to safety. The army guy also tells them that the armed forces are going to take one more go at blowing up the monster and if it doesn’t work they are going to leave NY to the monster and let the city be destroyed.
They leave the place and run to Beth’s apartment to see that it is leaning over onto another apartment, They decide to go up the opposite building and then cross where the building has fallen into the other one to get in to Beth’s room (39th floor). They climb up and cross and find Beth alive but impaled on a pole going through her shoulder.
Despite her pleas they pull her off and they hobble off out of the building and into the street, While they were in the building another tarantula tries to attack them but they kill t. They make it to helicopters and lily goes off in one. The next one arrives and Hud, Beth and Rob get on it.
As they fly off they see the monster be what they think is blown up. As they cheer out of the smoke it suddenly strikes the helicopter and it crashes into Central park. They survive though the pilot is dead. You see that NY is pretty much destroyed. Rob’s head is hurt and they have to drag him from the wreckage and his leg is badly hurt.
As they start walking off, Hud is lagging behind and suddenly looks up and the monster is looking down at him ( it is the only clear shot you see of the monster. It looks like a dinosaur but with crab like legs and a sort of elephanty looking face (minus the trunk).
It bites Hud and kills him and spits him out and the camera. The camera lies on the ground filming Hud’s dead face in the grass going sharp and blurry for a few secs, before Rob picks up the camera and him and Beth hide under a bridge in the park.
Rob films himself saying his name and tells people that if they are watching this they know more than him. He turns the camera to Beth who says her name and at that moment the bridge is blown up and collapses on them. You see the from the view of the camera that rocks are piling up on it and you hear Rob say ‘I love you’ to Beth and the reply ‘I love you too’.
The screen cuts back to the tape it has been recording over and you see a video of Rob filming Beth. He tells here there are two seconds left on the camera and what does she have to say. She replies ‘I had a great day’ and the camera goes blank. Credits come up. No soundtrack. Everyone died, except you never find out what happened to Lily in the first helicopter. You never find out what happened to the monster. You never find out what happened to NYC.
After the credits, footage is seen of Rob and Beth on vacation in front of a body of water. You see something drop from the sky into the water behind them. Cuts to black. You hear a male whisper, “What now?” End."

The FDA has announced that they believe that the meat and milk from cloned animals, will be safe for our consumption.

Cloning is far off, so it will likely take some time before robot-meat hits our shelves.

The report by the FDA still says that they need some more information before the decision can be final. They also mentioned that cloned newborn baby calves may pose a risk if consumed.
There are also many other concerns, mainly economic that are basically that people will fear the cloned food, and thus will buy less meat and milk.

Marine, Tragic Update

JACKSONVILLE, North Carolina (CNN) -- The charred remains discovered behind the home of a man accused of killing Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach are hers, and she died from blunt trauma to the head, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

The FBI is using electronic billboards such as this one in Columbus, Ohio, to hunt for Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean.

1 of 3 District Attorney Dewey Hudson announced the results after an autopsy on Lauterbach, but he admitted that questions remain.

The woman was eight months' pregnant. If her child was born and then killed, it would constitute another murder charge, Hudson said.

The FBI stepped up its search for Marine Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean, 21, the man wanted in Lauterbach's death, posting pictures of the suspect on electronic billboards across the country.

A warrant for Laurean's arrest on murder charges was issued last weekend. A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his capture.

Laurean has evaded authorities since Friday, when his wife handed over a note from the Marine saying that Lauterbach, 20, had killed herself and that he had buried her in the backyard, police said.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said the television show "America's Most Wanted" is helping in the manhunt. He encouraged citizens to pass tips to the show's Web site, www.amw.com.

The FBI said it also has obtained a federal warrant for Laurean's arrest on charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Authorities said Laurean killed Lauterbach on or about December 15, a day after her roommate last saw her. Her family in Ohio reported her missing on December 19. See a timeline of the case »

Lauterbach had accused Laurean of raping her. She had a protective order against Laurean, but it expired September 24, military records show.

In the military protective order, Laurean was forbidden from contacting Lauterbach in any manner, including through a third party, and ordered to stay at least 1,000 feet from her.

The order also showed Lauterbach and Laurean worked in the same unit at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Lauterbach's ATM card was found in a Durham, North Carolina, bus station last weekend, and Laurean's truck was reported in the area, police said Monday.

Brown has said that Laurean may be getting help in hiding and asked friends or family to turn in the Marine corporal if he makes contact.

"I would imagine he's getting help. ... Even though he's committed this horrible crime, he's still got friends," Brown said.

Laurean, a Nevadan, is believed to have been driving a black Dodge pickup with North Carolina license plate TRR1522.

The sheriff described the 5-foot, 9-inch-tall, 160-pound Laurean as "dangerous," especially if cornered.

Brown said the military protection order was not shared with civilian law enforcement.

"We had no reason to be on his trail," Brown said of Laurean. "This has nothing to do with the civilian world. Nothing about this had anything to do with the civilian world."

Brown said police learned Laurean's name January 7.

The Marines are investigating what information Lauterbach's superiors had and what steps were taken regarding the case, the Marine Corps said in a statement Sunday.

Military officials have said Laurean was not taken into custody after Lauterbach reported the rape allegation because there was information the two carried on "some sort of friendly relationship" after she filed the complaint.

(CNN) -- A pregnant Marine missing from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, was assaulted by a superior officer, the woman's stepmother told investigators.

Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she went missing on December 14.

According to police documents attached to a search warrant in the case, the stepmother also said she talked to Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, who was eight months pregnant, about giving up the baby once it was born.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown had told CNN affiliates earlier that Cpl. Lauterbach was the victim of a crime and was to testify about it.

A search is under way for Lauterbach, 20, who has been missing from Camp Lejeune since December 14.

The sheriff told CNN affiliate WECT that other people in the military could be involved with the Marine's disappearance and that they may have tampered with her car and cell phone.

Brown told CNN affiliate WRAL that investigators want to talk to a male roommate of Lauterbach's who may be on deployment and could be considered a person of interest in the case.

"Until you can interview him and eliminate, you still consider them as key people of concern," the sheriff said.

In a news release Thursday morning, the sheriff's office indicated progress was being made in the investigation.

"I do believe the answer is near. Open leads are still being investigated and more witnesses developed and interviewed. All these are bringing us closer to solving the mystery surrounding the disappearance of pregnant Marine, Maria Frances Lauterbach," the release from Brown's office said.

Lauterbach's phone was found at a Camp Lejeune gate on December 20. Her car was found at a Jacksonville bus station on Monday, the sheriff told WECT. But the car was not there during the weekend, he said.

Mary Lauterbach told the Dayton Daily News on Wednesday that she last spoke to her daughter on December 14 in what she called "a very normal conversation."

The stepmother told CNN affiliate WDTN that later that day she got a phone call from her daughter's roommate saying Maria had left their house. Calls she made to her daughter's cell phone after that went unanswered, Mary Lauterbach told the Dayton newspaper.

Investigators told the Marine Corps Times that a withdrawal from Lauterbach's bank account was made on December 14 and said there was "suspicious activity" on the account 10 days later.

The Raleigh News and Observer, citing Brown, reported that Mary Lauterbach said her daughter phoned home or her relatives up to 12 times a week and the stepmother became concerned when she did not hear from her daughter for five days.

A Facebook page established to help find Lauterbach says she was last seen December 14 in Jacksonville. "Call mom!!! You know the number," the page says. "All of us love you and we miss you. Please come home!"

The page contains pleas for contacts from fellow Marines and friends of Lauterbach in Ohio.

Lauterbach is a personnel clerk assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, the Marine Corps said. She joined the service on June 6, 2006.

Should Facebook be Grounds for Reprimand?

Recently, nearly 100 students were penalized and suspended from school because administrators were given access to facebook pictures of them 'partying.'
Is is fair to reprimand us for things that are in pictures on facebook? Where should we draw that line?

Believe me, I am sure there are nearly 1 000 incriminating images of me on facebook, but that should not be able to compromise my integrity. We give up much of our freedom to facebook to gain, in return, free access to this site which is... fun. I know that, personally, I chose to keep my facebook life and my personal beliefs and goals separated. I do not join causes, political factions, or express any real opinions outside what movies I like. My facebook is just one part of who I am. Someone who reads my blog, another who reads my myspace, another my facebook, and another who only sees me at school, would all have completely different positions on the type of person that I am.

But all of this aside, is it fair to be punished by administrators due to incriminating things on our facebook profiles? First it is important to realize that we do not have to upload our own pictures to have them linked to us via facebook. Other people can upload these pictures and tag them to us without our knowledge or approval, which could become incriminating before we have the opportunity to censor it.
I understand that a person in a professional position, or a position of power, should be extremely careful to steer clear of incriminating internet images, but it is so unfair to harp on young students finding themselves in the world. Everyone parties, everyone makes mistakes, and everyone plays with facebook. Give them a break.
Granted there should be a line. Someone posting illegal images such as unprecedented pornography should be subject to reprimand, but I think that it is hardly fair to penalize teenagers for drinking. Yes, the activity is illegal, just as is smoking marijuana, but we cannot punish people, legally, based on images of them smoking up.

Where should we draw the line? I guess it is really our responsibility to ensure we have the appropriate privacy settings and censor our facebooks, but I would really hope that my character was not based on my facebook profile. If one student is a mad partier but still gets better grades and produces better work than one who does not party, we should not be graded based on our partying. Better work is BETTER WORK when you are in the real world.
Stay responsible and stay censored, because with lax Internet laws we have no idea what it can do to us. What should it do?

Team Canada once again dominated the World Juniors Hockey tourney in the Czech Republic. Nice work boys. They also won the 17 and under tourney.

The Canadian Junior team won by beating Sweden in overtime. Matt Halischuk got himself the game winning goal at 3:36 in overtime. This is the 4th year running for Canada, and the 14th ever (both my lucky numbers... shweet). The boys will keep going into the tourney (about 10 of them eligible) in Ottawa. The game was intense, filled with big leads, big comebacks, some smack talk, fights, and questionable penalties. Nice work boys!!! GO CANADA GO!

Anyone else love John Cena? Well he is a Wrestler for the WWE. As we all know, WWE wrestlers have been constantle accused of steroid use, and many times they are users. I have had the pleasure of meeting some WWE stars (Not Cena, however) and those I have spoken to have sworn to never have used preformance enhancing drugs.
Well anyways, Cena recently did an interview with CNN where they asked him if he had used steroids. This was the answer shown by CNN.

Remember when Corey and Topanga were your idols? Remember when Melissa Joan Heart was who you wanted to be? Same here...

But a lot has changed... With the internet and our new obsession with the inner workings and everyday lives of all of these young celebrities, it seems that they are getting in more and more trouble.
A lot can be blamed on the "changing times" but a lot can be blamed on the changing media. For instance, the incident with Jiri Tlusty. Nude photographs of the young NHL player were all over the Internet, causing a tiny buzz in the GTA. But what was said by his fellow senior players? Things like "we all get into that kind of trouble... luckily it was before camera phones and the major use of the Internet.
Anyways, back to my original point... these young role models for even younger viewers are no longer effective. I have a little cousin who is 9 and loves (the satanic) High School Musical. But with it's success and our new found obsession with everything hollywood'ers do, the cast has been involved in many a Scandal. Vanessa Hudgens has been caught in nude photographs, Tisdale has exposed nipple, lipsynched and had a nosejob, and Efron is constantly in the news about his sexuality.

We can only protect the kids from so much. They look up to these "idols" and yet the media will constantly portray them in this "negative" light. The reason? THEY ARE TEEEENAAAGERS!! What kind of teenager doesn't get in some kind of stupid trouble? So with the change of the media, I think there needs to be a change in the role models. Nickelodeon and Disney need to rethink their leading characters, and stay on top of this phenomenon. I guess from an economic standpoint, the mass media's scandals likely bring them positive affects, but the affect on the young family channel viewer is one that should be held valuable.
So again, where should the blame lie? We want to call it the media, but what about the newest bombshell?

What the heeeeeeeell kind of role model is that? I am not saying mistakes don't happen, I am not saying she is the single reason the problem exists, and I am not saying her actions are the ultimate turn around point. What I am saying is... wtf?!! What I am saying is that the wholesome teen in TV just doesn't exist anymore for numerous reasons.

So since we have an entire generation of youngens holding onto every second of these "stars" we need to rethink the selection of the programming. Someone needs to make a change.

Batman Previews

I didn't feel too strongly about the newest Batman feature, "Batman Begins."
I do really like Bale, and I LOOOVE anything superhero... but I thought that the edgy new approach to this movie really took away from the more comic book stylings of the original films. I guess it is kind of cool that they went a bit darker...
anyways, there has been some new teaser (likely unofficial) trailers released for the next one, due in 2008, "Dark Night."

When you call that number, there is a voice saying when and where to meet for some kind of publicity stunt? who knows!

Leaf Regime To Blame?

There has been so much talk about John Fergusin Jr. and his reign as GM of NHL's The Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ol' Johnny boy, like any other Leaf coach or GM in the past is being criticized and blamed for the streak of.... lame in the Leafs gameplay.
Granted, McCabe might be taking too much pay (easy target) and our draft pics may be teens who can't skate... but we can't blame the streak (since '67) on the slacky regime at this present time.

Much of the blame should be on the unfortunate fact that leaf fanaticism is nationwide even throughout players. All of the veteran champions want to retire as a Leaf, for instance Eric Lindros and Doug Gilmore. And what regime would pass up a chance to have these legends dress in the team colours? But alas, as amazing as Dougy and Eric have been in the past, it does not translate when they hit their golden age and end up injured in the first game, or just plain too slow to get the puck. So the team blows all of their capped funds on these high priced veterans, and neglects the young guns who we need to condition for real game play.

Realistically there is so much more to the problem... maybe its the drive to sell jerseys, or keep ticket prices high... but we can't neglect this fact, and we also can't blame the entire failure on fergy, such a small part of the reigning regime.

I thought I was better because I didn't untag bad photos of myself (meaning removing the direct link from my profile to the photo so no one would know it was a picture of me). "If you know me, you know what I look like, and if you don't know me, than I don't really care what you think I look like." So that made me less narcissistic. I wasn't the one who flaunted images of myself in my best outfits. I also wasn't afraid to flaunt my geekiness via facebook applications, nor did I censor my minifeed because I couldn't care less if people who how addicted to facebook I was.
But then I was explaining facebook to my technologically challenged father. "What's the point?"
In explaining I told him about the pictures, and how it was more fun than regular e-mail. Then he asked the question that made me realize just how narcissistic every facebooker really is. "Well if you can send private messages, why would you post wall posts for everyone to see?"
GOOD FREAKING QUESTION!
Why do we allll choose to post on walls, flaunting it for any of our friends to see, flaunting it in newsfeed, and creating witty wall-to-walls? We all do it... we think it's weird when someone sends a private message. We want to sound funny. We want people to know how drunk we were, and what an awesome night we had. We want people to know what sports we like, the things we like on the Internet, and the funny one-liners guys said to us at the bar. Some people even go so far as to plot wall-to-wall responses via msn, or even clarify wall posts before responding in order to keep wall-to-walls clean of "what?"'s. We flaunt our conversations online.

None of us are segregated from this classification unless we hide our walls and only message privately, which i presume is quite rare. Some even go so far as to post things like "I am sending you my number in a private message" on people's walls. Clearly we are reminding everyone reading the wall that a private message is being sent.
Dam we are narcissistic.

8 and 9 Year Olds Charged with Rape

An 11 year old girl is claiming she was raped by two boys ages 8 and 9. Although there were no signs of struggle (even though the girl claimed they threatened to hit her with a rock before the alleged assault) it is impossible to consent to sex at that young age, and it is thus, rape.
Since the boys are under age 13, their charges cannot be raised to felonies as adults, so their maximum sentence will be about 5 months probation in their hometowns.

Identical Strangers: Freaky Shiz

I recently heard of a craaazy story. These two girls, Paula Bernstein and Elyse Schein, had been separated at birth (both given up for adoption) and were raised not knowing they had a twin. The separation of them was in order to fuel a twin study over the idea of Nature vs. Nurture.
Later in life (around age 30),one of the twins went looking for her past, and the girls were then informed that they were twins. They met up and confronted the scientist and said he was very smooth and still attempted to study them.

Like a creepy Disney Movie

The girls said that amongst themselves, they had similar mannerisms, that they both suffered from depression at the same age, and had many other similarities feeding possibilities to answer the nature vs. nurture debate.

They even mentioned another, more tragic case where two separated twins were reunited by friends, and after appearing in the paper, had found there was a third one, THEY WERE TRIPLETS. Tragically, the third apparently took his own life.

That is messssed up!
I bet their book is wicked interesting.

Colbert For President?

"WASHINGTON (CNN) — He made a splash with a surprise presidential announcement Tuesday, but can Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert actually get on the primary ballots in South Carolina?

The answer is yes, although it could get pricey.

The fee to be considered for the Democratic ballot is $2,500, while it’s a steep $35,000 to gain admittance into the Republican primary.

Colbert has indicated he will seek to appear on both party's ballots and the South Carolina Secretary of State's office confirms a candidate is allowed to run in both primaries.

But it remains to be seen if the State Democratic Party's Executive Committee, whose approval Colbert needs to get on their ballot, will vote to certify a candidate who is also running in the GOP race. The rules state the candidate must be "actively campaigning" for the Democratic primary.

Meanwhile, the State Republican Party does not require an executive committee vote and would not prevent a candidate from appearing on both party's ballots.

Colbert has until the end of this month to file with both parties. The Republicans are holding their primary January 19, while the Democrats will vote January 26.

The Palmetto State is one of four lead-off primary states that will likely play a crucial role in determining the eventual nominee of both parties.

First, I will say though after being through hell and back I survived the road of being a model. No one seems to realize just the artificial and cut throat industry that fashion and film entail. I am forever changed because of CNTM and am forever thankful of it. I have been so lucky to have had such a strong sense of self to be able to walk away from the "glamorous" life of being a top model. I am not a quitter and want all those who read this to understand that. I had been trying to model on my own for five years (since I was 15) and had been emotionally and physically drained because of it. Once CNTM came around I became stuck between a rock and a hard place; 1)should I continue this unhealthy lifestyle of being stick thin, showing an artificial image or 2) should I accept this opportunity as it is 1 in a million? Of course at the time jumping at the idea of being on CNTM was the answer, like most would have been. The show was interesting; it tested everyone’s mind and body to the extreme on CNTM. Even the producers were simply wiped by the end of the show. I got through it though…..my eating disorder (anorexic in case you didn’t already know- for five years) was hidden due to the fact that well, skinny is modeling and it is really is okay for this business. Once home after the show I had a few months before the show aired and so I started to gain weight by working with a trainer so that I could be a good role model to women everywhere. This regime went great and my disorder was quite possibly going to heal over with a lot more work…..until I was declared CNTM winner to the entire world of course. Once my first photo shoot came about I was immediately told that I must not keep training and not build any muscle as long and lean is what makes a model and that’s the bottom line. Needless to say I heard this repeatedly and so again conformed and became a complete skeleton. This eating disorder and what it did to me after CNTM is one that I could write a book on as it nearly ended my life but the real reason for this group is for me to just touch on CNTM and what it offered for me and my future, so here goes:

1) Contract of $100, 000 was declared work so the government taxed me to the hilt.
2) I was set up with a tiny room in a woman’s house engulfed with city dirt, summer heat, no place to respectively store my food. In fact it was so hot that my granola was covered in white worms within three days. Oh yes, I paid about $650 a month for this place.
3) My modeling jobs didn’t pay near what the world thinks I would be making, i.e. a cover page and 8 page editorial spread in a top magazine offered me only $500…..and these jobs are rare to begin with.
4) I had an interview where I was taken out of context in regards to a judge on the show CNTM and was looked on negatively and bitterly by absolutely everyone that new this person. Pretty sad seeing as how I was three weeks new to the industry versus the other party of more than 40 years experience.
5) I was told what to say, do, wear, eat, where my hair, colour my hair, how to walk, etc and never got to be the Andrea Muizelaar that one the show in the first place.
6) I was given little to no free products, clothes, make-up etc.
7) I was paying for every expense imaginable, i.e. transportation, rent, portfolio pictures, comp cards, postal services etc…..without my even knowing until I got what little money I made three months later from the original time of the job with deductions included.
8) I was mailed letters from a pre CNTM modeling agency’s lawyer claiming I was still under a previous contract and owed money or else I’d have to go to court. This mess was supposed to have been avoided when my parents and I spoke to City TV of the risk of such an event way before the show aired, and City TV said, “If this agency does anything our lawyers will squash it like a bug.”…..Well, I told City TV of the problem and they say now “deal with it, it is your problem”….I now have a lawyer and either way my hard earned money (what is left) is being drained
9) I moved out of the confined room and was placed in a man’s house where I had to live with mice in another small room. What started off as a few mice turned into utter filth where mice were everywhere….running under me as I ate, shitting on my pillow as I slept. I again was forced to move. Yep I was paying $650 each month as well to live there. I moved to a final location where I was in an apartment building on one of the most dangerous streets in Toronto where I lived with cockroaches, drug dealers, prostitutes etc. for this awesome new residence I paid $675 plus hydro, cable, etc etc.

Well, I could honestly go on for a lot longer and depending on how many people are interested in my story should I consider writing a book.

Keep in mind with all I mentioned above I am lucky on so many things, i.e. I didn’t get raped and killed while walking the streets of T.O. alone; or the fact that I was a clean cut kid who wasn’t interested in drugs or the party scene (which is a huge part of this business)

To conclude the above I will note though that I am home after 8 months of hell, I work at a bank, I am a healthy, healthy girl who eats tons of food and looks the womanly self I should look like, never again touching a weigh scale, measuring tape etc., I am starting to become social for the first time in a long time due to my illness etc., I am attending college for Business Administration, and bottom line………..I AM HAPPY! Happy and healthy and proud of my success story! Anyone who still has negative comments on this decision well, all I can say is “Don’t judge a person until you’ve walked a mile in there shoes.”

She was born Lois Hooker in Ontario, Canada(represent!!) in 1927 and starred alongside Sean Connery in the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No," in 1962 as the secretary to M, the head of the secret service. She was in all the Bond films through to "A View to Kill" when she was eventually replaced by Caroline Bliss for "The Living Daylights."
She had many successes in films throughout her life, and has now passed at age 80 due to some kind of Cancer complications.

I think she lived a pretty full life, starring in the amazing franchise as an extremely memorable and lovable character.

Then, while laughing, he took his award and made a drunk speech while avoiding shaking hands with the spawn. And how did he end his speech? By saying MTV should play more videos AND NO MORE REALITY SERIES!!!!

So close to home!
My brother attends, along with 90% of people I know.
So Apparently, two people were assaulted in their residence dorm rooms on Thursday night (or Friday morning).
Pretty scary.... it is supposed to be your safe haven.
People I know were at the school Friday morning and didn't spot a single officer or security guard. I know at my school its like fort Knox near the residences.
Scary stuff... I would not be happy to be a student there at that point, no safety in your own home... scary stuff.

Okay, so lemme 'splain my start.
Basically, I am an action movie junkie, so stuff like the Bourne trilogy, James Bond and the like always peak my interest. So I want to pose a question. Do you think the government is really as intense and woven as it appears in movies? Do you think Black Ops and cover ups and secret organizations are real? Are there fake wars and made up issues like in "Wag the Dog"? Are we all that stupid? Or are we stupid to think that these things do exist? Maybe it really is just run by some law school graduates, and is a simple as what it seems.
I can't help but wonder this, but at the same time, whatever!
So being that I am an action movie junkie, I recently went to see "Shoot 'em Up," which has been regarded as "A wet dream for action junkies" so it was clearly calling my name. So besides the disgusting views of breasts and animals portrayed in the movie, I really did enjoy it in all it's glory. Why is it that comedic legends become obvious douche bags as soon as they hit "The View"? First Rosie shows what an ass she is, and no Ms. Goldberg is coming into her own. Okay, so I should defend her a bit. Basically when I first heard the story it was far worse. She was remarking on the Michael Vick case, explaining that what he did wasn't so wrong because it was part of southern culture. When I heard this by word of mouth, I was fuuuurious!! A person who grows up around gun violence has no more excuse to be gun violent than anyone else. Check out the video:

In her defense, after seeing the video, I think she was playing devil's advocate, as apposed to defending Vick. HOWEVER. Are southerners not offended by this? It is pretty unfair to say that it is within Southern culture to torture and maim innocent animals. And again, the issue of gun violence.... just because you see it everyday does not mean you think it is right. We are very conditioned in our society, and most people are pretty aware of the laws. Vick was obviously aware he was breaking the law, just as someone exposed to other illegal activity could be, so culture is in no way a defense. She even goes so far as to compare it to cock fighting in Peurto Rico.... I won't even go there.
This is not just an issue of protecting the animals, I want you to know that I extend this even farther. It might be part of your culture to rob banks, or be a suicide bomber, but that in NO WAY makes it acceptable for you to do so. Vick is a grown man capable of making his own decisions, and should know the shit he did was wrong.

A police officer hit two pedestrians at a crosswalk! They have not been officially identified, but it is believed one of the pedestrians was a 38 year old Jesus Danilo Rosales of Miami Beach.
